Are you tired of classes, work or just need a vacation?  Then why not make your next weekend
getaway to Gatlinburg TN.  Less than an hour drive from Knoxville, this can be a great mini vacation for you and your friends or family.  Gatlinburg has lots to offer with amazing food and attractions for the whole family! Before I get to the good part of what to do and eat in the small town let me give you a brief history of Gatlinburg.
The history of Gatlinburg is just as unique as the town itself. This small little town sits in the perfect location in the mountains of east Tennessee. The family heritage dates back all the way back to 1807 when the first settlers came to this town. Martha Jane Huskey Ogle and her husband brought their seven children to the area and built their cabin. Long before the town was renamed Gatlinburg, the town was called “White Oaks Flat”. The Ogles were the first to settle in this town. As time went on the town grew. In 1855 a man by the name of Radford Gatlin came to the town and opened a post office. In honor of Radford Gatlin the town was renamed Gatlinburg a few years later. The town changed little in the first 100 years but after the establishment of Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the mid 1900’s the town’s economy got a big boost. Since then, the town and park has become a national hot spot making it the most visited national park in the United States with over 9 million people visiting every year.

  1. Great post! I love how you decided to address the history of Gatlinburg. It's such a well-known place throughout Tennessee, but I feel like no one knows anything about the town before it became a huge tourist attraction (or at least I didn't know anything). It's important for people of Tennessee to know about the history of such a significant town. I also really liked the pictures you chose. Specifically, I love the very last picture. It really captures the beauty of the town by showing off the mountains, the pretty sky, and the nightlife. It does a good job of "advertising" the town and is convincing in making someone want to visit.

  2. I really liked your post! And yes I am tired of classes and work and need a vacation. I've never been to Gatlinburg before so you totally convinced me to! People have told me there isn't much to do there but you've convinced me otherwise. Judging by your pictures it looks absolutely beautiful and outdoorsy! Being from out of state, I really don’t know much of Tennessee history at all, let alone Gatlinburg’s history so I liked how you addressed it. Can’t wait to hear what else the town has in store!

  3. This blog is a great starting post for what can be an incredible series of blogs. The biggest aspect of the blog that stood out to me was the way you ended it because I really want to see what posts will follow. Your revealing you live in Gatlinburg at the end is also an interesting point because you really do know so much about the fun place. Your credibility for knowing the area is strong because you even mention that you could be a personal tour guide for anyone visiting. The history of Gatlinburg is a great way to start a fun series of exploring Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
